Chiropractic Care

At Brodheadsville Chiropractic we provide the most advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Be assured that every patient encounter in our office will be personal with the utmost privacy. We never subject our patients to a group adjusting environment!

Using the newly developed Koren Specific Technique (KST) we can deliver previously unavailable precision in locating and correcting the exact source of nerve interference in the spine and other body areas. This cutting-edge technique provides untold effectiveness in managing our patient's often complex spinal health care needs. Many patients can be adjusted in the sitting and standing positions and often in the unique position which brings on the offending symptoms.

Many of the newest chiropractic, spinal adjusting techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. Another such advance is the Arthro-Stim spinal adjusting instrument. Using rhythmic tapping the Arthro-Stim instrument can make the same correction as a manual adjusting technique without the "cracking" of the spine which some patients find uncomfortable. The Arthro-Stim adjusting instrument is used exclusively with infants and elderly patients with better safety and patient tolerance.

The Vertebral Distraction pump (VDP) is another highly effective tool we use to manage 'slipped discs' or herniations. It is a simple yet highly effective hand-held instrument precisely applied to gently restore proper disc position, removing pressure from the 'pinched' or compressed nerve root. Patients often report near immediate relief from sciatica and other extremely painful, disc related, and spinal nerve compression syndromes.

As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Robert Van Metter has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.

Koren Specific Technique (KST)- In this office we offer a unique, breakthrough approach to patient care called Koren Specific Technique (KST).  The procedure is made up of three steps (the 3 C's).  The first step is "challenge," involves gently moving a body part in various directions.  Your structural system is scanned for subluxations.  The second step, "check," reveals where you are subluxated.  If your body part is out of its correct position and the challenge moves it (ever so slightly) further out of position, the base of your skull (your occipital bone) will slightly drop of the left.  This is called the occipital drop (OD) and is a binary neurological biofeedback device.  If the body part being challenged is in its proper position then there will be no occipital drop.  The third step, "correct," moves the body into its correct position.  If there is an OD then the area is gently corrected, usually using an adjusting instrument. We find that children especially like to be corrected this way- many feel it tickles.  Infants often smile during the procedure; they like the soothing vibration.

Corrective Exercises

At Brodheadsville Chiropractic, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. When appropriate these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing related pain in the muscles and connective tissues in or around the affected area. Many types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
